With a monster Stephen> NFA> Stephen sandwich and an incredible Let It Grow, the boys continued the magic of their fall East Coast swing on this day back in '76. The show also features the last Cosmic Charlie ever, which, in retrospect, might bring a bit of melancholy to the otherwise raging night. Listen to it all at Grateful Dead of the Day.
By 1981, the Dead's tour dates at college fieldhouses were on the wane, but they managed to torch the multi-purpose gym at LeHIGH University on this day. Jerry is just on fire all night, raging on Minglewood, Cumberland, and The Music Never Stopped (and everything else) in the first set. And there is a massive Scarlet> Fire in the second set along with a lovely Wheel and an unusual Sugar Mag sandwich with an emotional Black Peter and Around and Around in the middle. Fire the show up!
The 15-show Warfield run that gave birth to Dead Set and Reckoning began on this day in 1980. It was a special moment in Dead history that our guest, Chris Stone, attended with with good friends and his camera. Listen to Chris Stone of Grateful Photo discuss hitting these shows up and capturing the Dead on film on this episode of the Head’s Tales podcast.
