With Bruce playing lights out all evening, the Dead served another legendary show on this day back in 1991. The second set comes out of the gate with Dark Star and sidles through a Saint before taking an amazing Eyes into Drums. Out the backside, the boys go to The Other One, back into Dark Star, and then into an achingly beautiful Attics. The encore also features a Brokedown and the last We Bid You Goodnight the band ever played. You will want to fire up Hunter Seamon's matrix of this beauty at Grateful Dead of the Day.
In another of the shows from the long 1980 Warfield run that became part of Dead Set and Reckoning, the Dead open up with two huge breakouts: To Lay Me Down (not played since 1974) and On The Road Again (not since 1966). The rest of the acoustic set is out of sight as well, especially the closing trio of Cassidy, China Doll, and Ripple. And on that Ripple, Bob's pooch runs across the stage, provoking cheers from the audience and a little introduction - "That's Otis" - from Jerry. Check out the acoustic set along with the two other electric ones.
This week in 1987, Touch Of Grey peaked at #9 on the Billboard Hot 100, the only song by the band to ever crack the top 50. The chart success was a mixed blessing, bringing legions of new fans, but also dramatically altering the Deadhead culture and the music itself. Watch the iconic MTV video for Touch of Grey at Grateful Dead of the Day.
In 1973, the Dead closed out the fall East Coast tour in Buffalo and Martin Fierro joined them on stage for one last show. Listen to it all and read more about Martin Fierro and his time with Dead over at Grateful Dead of the Day.
Here is the complete show video from that heady 1991 show. Watch the Dark Star sandwich, Eyes, and Attics with a Brokedown> We Bid You Goodnight encore along with all the rest of the action.
