Morning Dew cracks open today’s 1972 show, and if Jerry's guitar doesn't give you goosebumps, you are not listening closely enough. The boys close the sumptuous set with a raging China> Rider, Playin'. Then, they come out for a tremendous second half, including a stratospheric Dark Star and an epically fiery Cumberland. The whole night was immortalized on Dick's Picks, but is ready to stream at Grateful Dead of the Day.
Despite Jerry claiming that “the Boston Garden is so tough, even the rats wear leather jackets,” the Dead had a long and storied history at the arena, including getting banned for grilling lobsters on a fire escape in the early 80s. But, by the next decade, the Dead were once again welcome at the Garden, and on this day in 1994, they start off their last run at the fabled venue with a juicy Stranger, followed by the final TLEO ever. An emotional So Many Roads and a delicious acoustic Maggie's Farm> Cumberland also highlight the early going. In the second half, check out the opening China> Rider, UJB into Space, and monumental Standing on the Moon out of Watchtower.
