Including one of only two versions of The Seven that the band ever played, today's show from 1969 is not to be missed. After Doin' That Rag, The Seven comes out, streaking forward with nervous, psychedelic vitality. Sounding a bit like Lovelight at times, it is a real shame that The Seven never made the regular rotation. At least you can enjoy it here along with a sweet Pig-fueled Good Lovin' and a very hot Stephen> Eleven. Give it all a listen at Grateful Dead of the Day.
On this day in 1989, the Dead broke out Death Don't Have No Mercy after 19 years. And the boys do not just play the tune; they eviscerate it as a shredding solo from Jerry sets off a mind-blowing jam. But there is far more than just the breakout, including a Playin'> Terrapin into Drums, sweet China> Rider, mighty We Can Run, and MIDI-heavy Bird Song. Head over to Grateful Dead of the Day to hear - and watch - it all.
We also want to give a big birthday shoutout to our good friend, Jason. He is a long-time Deadhead who got on the bus back in the 80s. He shared these photos of celebrating his birthday with the Dead and 20,000 of his best buds at the Boston Garden back in 1993. Check out the photos and the show and celebrate Jason’s birthday!
