With an absolute monster of an Other One clocking in at 35 minutes and one of the most beautiful and moving Stella Blues of all time, the Dead's show from this day in '72 is off the charts. Check out the entire show, including the banter from Jerry and Bobby at the very end.
On this day, the Dead opened their 7-show Europe '74 tour. Just a month before the mid-70s hiatus began, financial and drug issues plagued the band and made for an uneven set of nights across the pond. The opener is par for the course, with a positively face-stealing Truckin> Jam that reaches epic heights. And there are lovely stand-alone renditions of Scarlet and Playin', but also enough problems that Bobby apologizes to the crowd at least twice.
